Resumen:
The increase in solid waste generation and management is a problem for a society and stimulate environmentally safe forms of solution and a great challenge for the development of workers in schools, space for socialization of knowledge and construction of proactive behaviors. This research aimed to investigate the knowledge of the students of the EJA of a State School, in the municipality of Ouro velho - PB, on solid waste and soil contamination, in order to reinforce the importance of selective collection and the recycling of waste as a source of income and Environmental preservation and give students an alternative for empowerment and strengthening of youth protagonism. From the interviews it was observed that the students have a mature perception about the problem of litter and soil pollution and understand that the theme of solid waste can open the way to empowerment and income generation from recycling, however, the Practice as a means of income is still incipient and the city where the study was carried out does not have policies aimed at selective collection of garbage, evidencing the urgency of implementing more effective tools, and priming for distributive justice and social solidarity, especially considering the need for Occupation and appreciation of youth.
