Resumo:
The green areas possible the socio-environmental transformation when inserted in the school space. This work sought to diagnose the existence of green areas in state schools of a city of Paraíba and to credit its value in the development of Education, using Environmental Education as a sensitizing instrument. The research was based on the appreciation of official documents, direct observation, application of checklist, tree survey and mapping by geoprocessing. The results are presented in a critical analysis of the performance of the Master Plan and Municipal Environmental Code in relation to the green areas, diagnosis of the distribution of these spaces in the state public schools, as well as its contributions and weaknesses in the improvement of the pedagogical practice before the PPP. It was concluded the need for activities environmental education and that these can be done with the use of green areas through school planning.
