Resumo:
Violence against women is a global and public health problem affecting women of all ages, social classes, races, religions and levels of schooling. It is characterized by damage to the physical and mental health of the victim, and is not only linked to the use of physical force, but also to the idea of submission, culturally impregnated in gender relations. As a consequence of violence, women are impaired in their social life, repressed and psychologically shaken. In this sense, the present study aimed to evaluate the predisposition for mental disorders in raped women. This is a field research, exploratory in nature, with a qualitative and quantitative approach, carried out by the Suzane Alves da Silva Reference and Support Center for Women. The sample consisted of 20 raped women. The semistructured questionnaire was used as a data collection instrument. The research was approved by the Ethics and Research Committee of the Federal University of Campina Grande. The results show that the participants are predominantly separated, ranging in age from 19 to 39 years old, brown skin color, incomplete elementary schooling, living in a family home with a minimum wage. Regarding the data relevant to the study, it was possible to perceive that the type of violence predominantly suffered by the women was physical, psychological and moral, carried out by the abusive husband / partner. Characteristics point to the appearance of varied mental disorders, starting from the type of aggression suffered by the victims. It can be observed that violence has mainly affected the mental and emotional balance of women.
