Abstract:
The present research, carried out in the city of Lavras da Mangabeira-CE, had as main objective to analyze the teaching and learning process of children with disabilities. Therefore, we set out four other objectives, namely: to discuss the theoretical and legal aspects of the inclusion of children with disabilities; to reflect on the role of the teacher in the process of inclusion and to investigate the pedagogical practice in the education of children with disabilities and their main challenges and possibilities. This research culminated in the subsequent problematic: what are the main challenges and possibilities in the process of teaching, learning and inclusion of children with disabilities in the regular education system in the city of Lavras da Mangabeira-CE. In order to carry out the research, we used the qualitative approach and a semistructured interview with six questions-themes, applied to five teachers, from the 1st to 5th year of the initial years of elementary school, aged 32 to 43 years, in a municipal public school of the referent city. Subsequently, we performed the data analysis, based on the elaboration of categories from the content analysis. Through the obtained results we can understand the difficulties that are faced for the work with these children, as well as what the teachers have thought and searched as a pedagogical practice so that there is teaching and learning of quality. Through the statements of the interviewees we realize that the teachers perform a work that must be aided by the whole school community and also by professionals from different areas such as: psychologists, social workers, speech therapists and others, since we perceive that the absence of these overloads the teachers in their practices. Another challenge outlined is the lack of infrastructure, adequate use of the few resources that are offered and continuing education of the education professional to act on the specifics and inclusion of the student with disabilities.
