This monographic study of Trainning, Work and Dilemmas of the Teaching Profession, was held in the city of Cajazeiras - PB. Having as purpose the following general objective: To analyze the formation, working, and dilemmas of the teaching profession; and specific objectives: to discuss the conceptions of teacher education and its demands in contemporary society; reflect the teaching and its relevance in the knowledge construction process and investigate the dilemmas of the teaching profession in professional practice. The choice of this theme emerged as a result of its relevance in the studies, debates, and researches in the twenty-first century, in addition to my interest in furthering this discussion. To support this argument I used as a theoretical basis the contribution of the following authors: Esteve (1995), Pimenta (1998), Perrenoud (2000), Ramalho (2004), Imbernon (2006), Nóvoa (2007), Tardif and Lessard (2009), Charlot (2013), among others. To understand the teaching work is necessary to investigate and think: What are the initial and continuing training concepts? What causes devaluation of the teaching profession? What are the difficulties faced in the teaching profession? And what are the implications of the precariousness of teaching in the profession? The approach used in this study was a qualitative study of exploratory type, which sought to provide greater familiarity with the subject matter, taking as its starting point a literature review. In data collection was used a semi-structured interview as a tool that consists by ten questions related to the topic. The study subjects were five teachers in the early years of elementary school. The data were analyzed in a qualitative approach. It can be concluded that the activity performed by teachers are increasingly demanding competent professionals, responsible and committed to their profession. The data show that teachers consider that the teacher must be in constant training and advocating the need to invest in continuing education in order to give the opportunity for professional growth and improve teaching and learning in order to meet the demands and pressures that the school routine imposes. However, stand out too, which is important to emphasize in society the teaching profession as it is, with its implications and performances, the teaching area have to know how to deal and position in relation to the dilemmas of the profession, among them can be pointed out: the confrontation with the devaluation of the profession, low salaries, lack of motivation and the new profile of students.
