In search for competitiveness and productivity for the survival of businesses in the global market, there is the growing concern over the reduction of waste, which are related to the production time, idle machines or materials. The manufacture of PVC hose, more specifically, by the extrusion process. This manufacturing process consists of several steps, starting by mixing the raw material passing through the extrusion, calibration, cooling, cutting, finishing and finishing by weighing and dimensioning of the hose. It also made possible the implementation of process improvements bring results in a significant savings for the company by reducing the scrap rate in production of PVC hoses. behavioral changes observed include better commitment in relation to the work to be performed, the result of training conducted during implementation and discipline regarding the sequence and deadlines for implementation of each task machine preparation, improvement as obtained with the standardization of tasks. The setup is the time it takes to exchange tools to prepare equipment, between the last piece of good quality and produced the first piece approved the new product. The work aims to reduce the setup time in a process of PVC extrusion, to reduce waste and rearrange have machines stops. Despite the reduction of time obtained in the experiment in question, it is possible to further reduce setup times by reducing each of the machine preparation operations to achieve this goal was made analysis of setup times and shooting setup in extruders. Thus the researcher used the application tool that helps in this quest to reduce these waste generated. Based on the concepts of lean production, assessment of the current state of the process was carried out, and was significantly improved setup time generating, which thus can be included in the tool efficiency with a reduction in time of tool change, in addition the broad learning the researcher and the organization.
