Abstract:
This study explores geeks products, focusing on the utilitarian and representation function of the Star Wars franchise and Marvel films. The research involves surveying, analyzing and understanding about products such as communication in design, identifying how artifacts communicate their function according to semantic theory, and how they communicate their representation function from the theory of semiotics. The objective of this work is to present the characterization of geek utilitarian products in relation to the way in which the sign is incorporated and as expressed in an iconic, indicial and / or symbolic way in the physical attributes and its approximation to the extra utilitarian or utilitarian function. The research approach is characterized as qualitative visual research. The methods used are semiotic analysis, comparative analysis and classification of analyzed products. It is concluded that geek products are examples of objects in which the presented concepts can be explored in a clear way by providing the visualization of the representations that they refer. The results of the analyzes presented a variety of possibilities of interrelationship between the utilitarian and symbolic functions from the nuances of the attributes in the objects that map the studied geek products.
