Abstract:
The devaluation of the environment is a consequence the relationship of humans with nature, and it can be explained by the lack of approaches in school contents of this subject, since it is extremely important talk about the environmental issues, it being developed in both environments non-formal and formal education, that is, associations, rural settlements and also in classrooms to check raising awareness critically of social subjects. In this perspective, the research entitled "Environmental Education in the Teaching of Geography in the Context Paraiba Cariri", has the overall aim to verify how the environmental education is being developed in the teaching of Geography in the School Canon João Marques Pereira - Serra Branca. In this research, it were used assumptions of descriptive qualitative research. Thus, the first phase of research was done a literature review and in the second phase of field research was conducted. Due to what was seen during this study, it was found that the environmental issue in education of Geography are worked across the board, however, is still insufficient because it is an isolated, individual and fragmented work by some teachers. The PCN’s despite their working guidelines on environmental education are still not being consulted by teachers, since some of them are not even unaware of their guidelines. It was identified that the way it has been crafted theme in school is still far from playing its role of awareness of students and create an environmentally healthy posture. The survey results show that the school researched, needs to advance to develop an educational practice in context and interdisciplinary way between the Geography discipline and other ones so that it could contribute to is a significant teaching and the development of a critical and reflective EA, also contributing to the awareness of the subject of teaching and learning of environmental issues.
