The Erythroxylaceae Family comprises four genera with distribution in tropical regions, with Brazil being one of the main centers of diversity of species of this genus. In northeastern Brazil are found 71 species in which 13 are endemic to the state of Paraíba and some do not have in-depth knowledge of their pharmacological properties. On this, the research aims to observe the psychopharmacological activities of methanol extracts of the species Erythroxylum caatingae (ECAA), E. revolutum (EREV), E. pauferrense (EPAU), E. simonis (ESIM) and E. pulchrum (EPUL) using the induced seizures test by Pentylenetetrazole (PTZ), the high cross maze test, formalin test and the hot plate test. These extracts were tested in Swiss albino mice (males and females), weighing between 20-40 g and between 2 and 3 months. Seizures tests induced by PTZ and the high cross maze did not present results with statistical significance level, indicating that the extracts do not have anticonvulsant and anxiolytic activities. In the first phase of nociception test the EREV extracts (64.0 ± 10.3) and ESIM (71.7 ± 10.9) showed significant changes on the paw licking time in the control and the ECAA extract (78 5 ± 11.8). In the second phase of nociception test animals administered with EREV (24.0 ± 16.0) and ESIM (49.7 ± 32.2) showed a reduction in the time to lick paw compared to the control (196.0 ± 32.1). In the hot plate test was observed at doses of 100 mg / kg of ESIM extracts (16.82 ± 3.955) and EREV (17.15 ± 4.288) suggested a antinociceptive activity. In conclusion, the results showed psychopharmacological effects of depressant drugs with favorable antinociceptive activity of ECAA, EREV and ESIM extracts. However, further studies are necessary to better understanding of the results of nociception.
