Living in a capitalist society the man feels obliged to perform work, demanding of themselves
in their daily labor a continuous effort, thus arises is that occupational stress can directly
affect their well-being. The aim of this study was to verify the presence and the level of
occupational stress in the Military Police of the city of Cajazeiras-PB. It is a cross-sectional
survey, field, exploratory, with a quantitative approach, developed in the 6th Battalion of
Military Police of the city of Cajazeiras PB. The study population consisted of 80 military
police who met the inclusion criteria. Data were collected through a socio-demographic
questionnaire and the Inventory of Stress Symptoms for adults Lipp (ISSL), and analyzed in
Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS). Drew up a profile of predominantly male
police (93,75%), married (58,75%), with children (68,75%), 61,25% have only a high school
education, work in this area for over 20 years (30%), having weekly workload of 48 hours
(53%), 51,52% consider the work too stressful, 90% these never took sick leave for stress. It
was found that 65% are stressed, and 46,25% find themselves in the resistance and 16,25%
the exhaustion phase. It is concluded that it is important to know the institution about the
dangers of stress among workers, because this knowledge will enable and encourage the
creation of moments of reducing this hazard, thus improving the physical and psychological
well-being of police. The performance of activities to promote health directly reflect in a good
work performance and reducing absenteeism by stress.
