Résumé:
The present study aims to investigate the relationship of breastfeeding in the first hour of life with exclusive breastfeeding up to six months of life. A survey was carried with 55 mothers of children aged 7 to 12 months who were followed up by the Unidades Básicas de Saúde (UBS) in the city of Uiraúna-PB. For analysis of data was conducted by Statistical Package for the Social (SPSS), version 22. For the descriptive statistics were used for describing the results, such as mean and fashion. Social-demographic were analyzed using the mean and fashion, the categories were analyzed by frequency, graphics and tables were also used. Because of the categorical variables, the statistical chi-square test (X²) was used to evaluate the association between the variables under study, with significance level p> 0.05. However, for presenting 9 cells (75%) with frequency below that expected, thus violating the hypothesis for the use of the simple test (X²), it was necessary to use the correction from the exact Text of Fischer to report and describe the relation between the first breastfeeding in the first hour of life and the type of breastfeeding in the first 6 months. In this results, it can to verify the prevalence ratio (37,5% / 14,28% = 2,62) there are about 2,62 times more exclusive breastfeeding in those exposed to breastfeeding in the first hour than those not exposed to breastfeeding. Breastfeeding in the first hour of life seems to be a protective factor for exclusive breastfeeding. Whit regards to these variables, the result showed t was positive even though not getting statistical significance.
