Resumo:
This research it is an integrative review, which aims to identify the found material evidence of
nursing practice with patients with mental disorders, considering that mental illness still
suffers marginalization nowadays, especially in health institutions. The psychiatric reform in
Brazil began in the second half of the 70s, and brought changes that affected the entire service
network in mental health. The nurse is influential before and after the reform context, their
work in the mental health area currently consists in their activities in general and psychiatric
hospitals, at the Psychosocial Care Centers (Centros de AtençãoPsicossocial – CAPS) and
direct assistance to the community through the Family Health Strategy (FHS). It has
performed an integrative literature review based on article withdrawals published between
2010 and 2014 through the guiding question of the study, article searches were conducted
according to the inclusion criteria, in databases of Latin American Literature in Health
Sciences (Literatura Latino-americanaemCiências da Saúde - LILACS) followed by Scientific
Electronic Library (SciELO). were found in all 1214 articles, 1205 being excluded, either
because they are not within the stipulated dates, being a foreign language, for do not match
with the topic discussed or duplicity, the end of the process we used nine articles, the
information obtained in this research was selected by established and standardized
instruments. It was observed that even nurses have different areas to work in mental health,
with no guarantee that they will have the assistance provided, due to lack of knowledge of the
subject and the lack of preparation since their graduation. Another problem is that there is a
protocol for nursing performance in mental health care, however there is concern about
improvements in the assistance provided, and better qualifications to operate in the field.
