Résumé:
With the current environmental problematic, resulting from the development model with objectives aimed only at raising economic indices, the need arises to achieve sustainable development, in which seeks the balance between the economic, social, cultural, political and environmental dimensions, as that in recent years there has been witness to the problematic character of the relationship between man and the environment. Among a multitude of variables that is related to the theme of sustainable development, agriculture stands out, since, since the dawn of civilization, it is the main form of human interaction with nature, which causes the greatest changes in the world. environment. Thus, the new agricultural model, which emerges in the midst of environmental concerns, brings the search for a sustainable agriculture that seeks to insert this new paradigm, is agroecology. In this sense, this study aims to identify the sustainability index of family organic agriculture from the economic, technical-agronomic, management, ecological and political-institutional indicators proposed by Oliveira (2007) of producers linked to the Association for Economic Development, Social and Community (ADESC) located in Lagoa Seca - PB. The methodology used is based on the model proposed by Oliveira (2007), which analyzes a set of indicators that results in an agroecosystem sustainability index. The study is characterized as exploratory and descriptive conducted in the form of a case study. Data were collected through interviews with farmers linked to ADESC and complemented with secondary data analysis and non-participant observation. The results show that most of the indicators are satisfactory, so as to contribute positively to the achievement of the sustainability of family farming by producers associated with ADESC, although there is a lack of public policies to strengthen family farming in the region.
