Resumo:
The sociology route up to its consolidation in the basic education curriculum was marked by a discontinuity process, in which it was necessary many struggles until it has been accepted and compulsory. Since its obligatoriness arises a major deadlock between professionals in the field as regards to how to "teach", since this discipline does not have in its curriculum established methods for teaching. This became a challenge due to the fact that teachers have to give students sociological themes and concepts, which are central to the subject, in a less dense way and without getting away from the scientific rigor that the subject requires. This work seeks to investigate how sociology is being taught in basic education. To this end, analyzing which any difficulties and/or facilities teachers of the Escola Estadual de Ensino Fundamental e Médio Professor José Gonçalves de Queiroz, in the city of Sumé -PB are to teach sociology, regarding the methodological issue as well as check student postures facing the methodologies developed by teachers in order to know whether these are understandable or not. As a research method we used semi-structured interviews for teachers and questionnaires answered by students. Through this research it can be seen that the teaching of Sociology is not an easy task by the short time that is proposed for the subject, the lack of trained teachers working in the area and the lack of teaching materials for teaching this subject in high school, as in the words of the teachers interviewed is persistent speech that always has that he is "seeking innovation".
