Resumo:
Over time, the number of people deprived of their liberty has been increasing
significantly, with the number of female prisoners growing at a much higher rate than
expected, but penitentiary institutions have not kept pace with this growth rate and
consequently have not adapted to receive These women with their unique characteristics
and characteristics, making the institutional environment as well as access to health by
this group still low quality, inadequate, insufficient and often inoperative. The present
study describes the epidemiological profile of female prisoners in the city of Cajazeiras-
PB. It is a cross-sectional, descriptive study with a quantitative approach. It was
developed with women deprived of their liberty in the female prison in the city of
Cajazeiras - PB. The instrument used for data collection consisted of a structured
questionnaire consisting of objective and subjective questions. Descriptive statistical
analysis (absolute distributions, percentages, mean and standard deviation) and
statistical tests were performed in software SPSS, version 20. All items set forth in
Resolution 466/12 of the National Health Council, which regulates research with human
beings, were obeyed in this study. It was identified that these women are mostly from
31 to 45 years of age, with companions in prison, low level of education, the family
grant is the only source of income, have diagnosed diseases and receive health care, But
the same is fragile and of little effectiveness. In view of these findings, we perceive the
need for a greater commitment to the implantation of a prison environment that offers
health care in an integral way and that minimizes the factors that contribute to the poor
health conditions presented by these women, as well as offer opportunities for
resocialization, So that only in this way the prison situation in the country is different
from the one that persists for so long.
