Soil salinity is one of the problems present in most arid and semiarid areas of the globe, whose advancement and consequences severely compromise the quality of the soil, the production system, and the social and economic segments. Find alternatives to mitigate these impacts is essential to establish proposals that incorporate the productive system of food these areas. Among many of these alternatives Atriplex nummularia plant spread to all continents and quite adapted to the soil and climatic conditions of the semiarid region and saline environments, enables bridging the gap of agricultural production in areas of saline soils. The plant, however, is still not well known by the farmers of the study area. In this sense, the survey assessed the perceptions of farmers and community Maracajá Irrigated Perimeter of Sumé about the herb salt (Atriplex nummulária). The methodology was based on environmental perception, supported by the method of random individual counted using a questionnaire containing seven open questions, to indicate knowledge of the plant under study among farmers. Besides the questionnaires, a literature search was conducted covering the main features of this kind, established a database of protein in the experimental area of the CDSA and held a field day to disseminate concepts about the plant. The results reveal a degree of lack of knowledge about the herb salt by farmers and on the salinity of the soil, its causes, consequences and management forms. The fitométricos data of saltbush of seedlings produced in salinized soil were visually higher than those of plants grown with non saline soil. The activities of the field day were very important to socialize knowledge on the salt grass and disseminate research findings on the plant.
