Abstract:
Constantly people in their state of consumption is in contact with family businesses, whether
directly or not. These are scattered in various spheres of the consumer market, from
automotive industries like food, drug stores and through other segments. Family enterprises
are like any other in that if there is a concern in creating wealth by producing goods or
providing services, but something peculiar is the fact that employees in most or in whole, to
have an emotional bond between them. Such organizations begin their activities in a simple,
but then comes a need to expand its activities so that they begin to turn professional. Thus,
professionalization is the result of learning in the workplace or in the interaction between
individuals within and outside the organization through special characteristics. And learning
this branch of development is crucial, since it triggers the process of professionalization. From
this, we defined the following overall goal of the study: to understand how owners of family
businesses in the segment of pizzerias in Campina Grande learn about professional business.
Regarding the methodology used, we conducted a survey of descriptive and qualitative,
consisting of a literature review on the subject in question and the data were collected through
structured interviews. The results showed that managers of family firms under study learn
about professionalism from the experiences in implementing the activities and that prior
knowledge was essential for them to be applied in their endeavors.
