The particularities of the human being can be observed from their culture, manifested through social interactions of individuals. In the organizational context culture can be identified from the values and practices that govern the actions of the organization. Therefore, the research aims to conduct a comparative to the values and practices of the organizational culture of two companies from the public and private banking sector. The research is quantitative and descriptive in nature and as a tool for data collection, a questionnaire was used to identify the profile of the sample and to identify the perception of the respondents regarding the applicability of values and practices. For this Brazilian Instrument for Assessing Organizational Culture - IBACO - was used. These questionnaires to managers of the Public Bank and Private Bank were applied. The results indicate that both the private company and public company values with higher level of applicability were the figures for Cooperative Professionalism and values related to satisfaction and welfare of employees. Regarding the applicability of lower values, the values of stiffness in the hierarchical structure and the values of professionalism were competitive and individualistic. With respect to practices, it was found that the highest levels of applicability occurred in practices related to Foreign and Integration practices Promoting Interpersonal Relationships, while the lowest average of applicability were compared with Reward and Training. After analysis of the values and practices, it can be inferred that the governance of the Public Bank has undergone major changes in recent years and presented an organizational culture focused on enhancement of interpersonal relationships, greater flexibility in relation to the hierarchical rigidity and an appreciation of initiatives and employee welfare. In Private Bank we found that the values and practices were in line with expectations and that there is a caution in the work environment, quality of service and the relationships among employees.
