Seleção de indicadores ambientais para a região do semiárido.

Abstract

This study aims to select the IBGE Sustainable Development Indicators set (IDS / IBGE), the environmental indicators that are suitable for assessing the sustainable development of the Brazilian semiarid. To meet this objective, has been taken based on the Sustainable Development Indicators (SDIs) proposed by IBGE, as a structured set of national scopes of information covering a wide range of environmental issues of great importance in society. For the selection of indicators were also used the criteria proposed by the OECD (PSR), which represents the environmental indicator model adopted by Brazil. The relevance of this study is to construct a typology based on environmental indicators that translate different typical situations in the region, to enable the selection of a set that could take into account all its features. With the application of this methodology the study proved to be an important starting point for the development of other initiatives aimed at creating a tool for assessing the environmental issue of the semi-arid region, which can be used to support public policies directed to the question environmental degradation of the region, whose sources are very specific.
