Currently, for a company to be inserted in the market and stay competitive, it is very important to have strategies to manage their business, and the information is an invaluable method that helps to make important decisions. It is noticed that more and more companies have sought this method, using tools that assist in decision making, so that the product meets the needs of customers, with quality and lowest price as well as reduced waste. This work aims to analyze and propose improvements in the production flow of the grocery sector of a company in the retail industry. To meet those objectives, the following tools were applied: Value Stream Mapping (VSM) and Kanban. The VSM is a tool that helps detecting the sources of waste and enables a holistic view of the production process, and also assists the improvements that should be taken. On the other hand, Kanban schedules, triggers the production and controls the stock. The methodology used in this study is considered to be applied, exploratory and qualitative in the form of a literature review and case study. According to the analysis of the current situation of the chosen company, one detected through the map of the current state of the production flow some points that need improvements and some recommendations were made, such as: increasing the number of trips for purchasing products, exchange the vehicle used for transport of materials, using a system driven by supermarkets between the two processes, thereby causing a reduction of 34.89% of the lead time. To prepare the future state map, one made an action plans and so if the company wishes to implement them, it will have a better inventory management, reducing the waste of material.
