Abstract:
This study deals with gender relations and the contributions of the teaching profession to the
deconstruction of differences and prejudices about sexism in the classroom. The research
aimed to analyze the conceptions of students and teachers of the State School of Elementary
and Secondary Education Professor José Gonçalves de Queiroz City Sumé/PB in relation to
gender and sexuality, with greater focus to the issue of diversity sexual and gender. The
research methodology is the exploratory type, data collection was developed through
questionnaires involving coordinator, teachers and students of the 1st, 2nd and 3rd year of
high school in the form of Youth and Adult Education (EJA), a psychologist and professor of
the Program Secondary Education Innovator (proEMI) and school professor José Gonçalves
de Queiroz. Os survey results indicated that teachers understand the questionnaire participants
on issues of gender and sexuality, but some of them show that there is still a gap between
what is laid down in the National Curriculum Parameters and what actually happens in the
school context. While it is intended that the issue be debated interdisiciplinar way, there is a
need to train a more updated and contextualized vision to reality. Was identified another gap
in schooling to deal with issues of gender, sexuality and diversity in school. As students, these
considerations are issues related to sexuality naturally mostly but sometimes show
contradictory opinion on the conduct of open questions in the questionnaire, leaking, lines,
prejudices when their ideas as opposed to homosexuality. The results also showed that
discrimination with regard to gender relations and sexuality in the school environment is still
veiled in their daily.
