Abstract:
This paper concerns about the social representations of high school students from the School Senador José Gaudêncio, in the municipality of Serra Branca - PB regarding the understanding that they have on democracy. It is understood that all social representation is the representation of an object and a subject (REIS & BELLINI, 2011). Therefore, this paper considers the knowledge that is built within the relations of individuals to their space. Thus, through Discourse Analysis of Collective Subject of Lefèvre & Lefèvre (2003) it was possible to make in this paper, the construction of four speeches: Democracy is a form of government of the people; a democratic government is one that "offers" voice to the people; Democracy is linked solely to the exercise of voting. Related policy issues: democracy, power, state, elections, forms of government, are not worked upon sufficiently in the discipline of Sociology. Given this context, it was possible to analyze the social representations of respondents with regard to democracy, and point out how the pedagogical practices developed in the lessons of sociology can contribute to expansion of exposed social representations, in this paper, since the use of appropriate teaching methodologies is sine qua non condition for appropriate learning of any student.
