Resumo:
The surveys were conducted in the Laboratory of Ecology and Botany UFCG / CDSA,
campus Sumé-PB, aiming to determine the best method of overcoming dormancy, and
also to know the morphology of fruits and seeds of Ziziphus joazeiro Martius on
riparian areas in the Caatinga. For dormancy testing were used 7 pre-germination
treatments: spectator - intact seeds; scarification; scarification by imbibition /24 hours;
imbibition for 24 hours, scarification followed by imbibition/48 hours; imbibition for 48
hours, and imbibition for 72 hours, and evaluated the physiological quality and vigor. It
was also performed morphological description of the fruits and seeds. According to the
obtained data, it was found that the manual scarification of the tegument with a nº 80
sandpaper with no imbibition was considered the most effective treatment for
overcoming seed dormancy. Present the fruits drupe being mostly indehiscent,
monospermic or dispermic, with estenospermic seeds, oval or elliptical; tegument
orange-brown, axial embryo and foliaceous cotyledons.
