Résumé:
In this dissertation discussed the ways in which the indigenous people Xukuru-Kariri is represented in the town of Palmeira dos Índios, before written construction, which influenced the imagery and discursive memories of Palmeiras, creating an exotic Indian and romanized converted into commercial, tourist attraction, Museum, exalted sculptural and as being of the "past". We seek to analyze the construction and takeovers of the figure of the Xukuru-Kariri, highlighting the socio-historical conjunctures and actors involved in the process. To this end, such representations have gone over with the vision of indigenous leaders about these images and representations, perceiving them as historical subjects active in daily life Palmeiras. We conduct this research from various documentary sources, as well as reports of indigenous Xukuru-Kariri in Palmeira dos Índios. Our analysis based on the reflections of authors like Adelson Lopes Peixoto, Aldemir Barros da Silva Júnior, João Pacheco de Oliveira, Edson Silva, Fredrik Barth, Roger Chartier and Maurice Halbwachs. We affirm that the creation of various forms of representation on the natives resulted from the goal expressed by Palmeiras memoirists to create an identity for the city of Palmeira dos Índios; However, in a context of territorial disputes, these images were appropriate for squatters of indigenous lands and used as a model of ethnicity and means for the spread of stereotypes, being widely questioned by leaders Xukuru-Kariri.
