Resumo:
The practice of reading constitutes as indispensable action to the development of the citizenship.
And still, at the professional exercise of all people in a society that has the literacy as basic
condition for the insertion in the job market. This research has as general objective to analyze
the contributions of the practice of reading for teachers training. The specific objectives are: to
know the perception of the academicals teachers concerning to the importance of reading for
teachers training; to identify the conception of the students in the final years of Pedagogy degree
about the importance of reading for the initial education process; to investigate the conception
of the teachers from the begins years of elementary school on the importance of the reading for
the continuing education process. This work is orientated by the following question: how can
reading contribute to the enhancement of teachers’ formation? Relating to the methodological
course the first part of this research was constituted of a bibliographical survey. The second
stage was a field research, of the exploratory type with qualitative approach. The locus of the
research was a state public school of Cajazeiras town in Paraiba, and the Center of Formation
of Teachers (CFP). Six subjects participated of this research: two students in the final year of
Pedagogy degree of CFP; two teachers of CFP and two teachers of the basic education. The
instrument of collection of data was the interview semi structured. Results: the carried out study
allows us to assure that the reading is an effective way of contributing for the teaching
formation. The data found in this research showed that the reading contributes to the teaching
training in all of the segments here discussed, so much to acquire new knowledge, as to enlarge
others, to increase the vocabulary, to create new teaching strategies, to have autonomy in the
discussions and also, it is one of the means for reaching the job market.
