This research focuses on the study of iconography: interpretations, images and new questions in the teaching of history. This is a bibliographical research, in which the data were collected through consultation of several literature related to the subject in study, articles, books and published research that allowed the study to take shape to be grounded. The main objective was to investigate the use of iconographic analysis as a didactic process for teaching-learning history, seizing the interpretations of the analyzed authors about the importance of acquiring skills to deal with iconography in the classroom, as well as with regard to Use of iconography in the textbooks of textbooks. The results obtained demonstrated the importance of the use of iconography in the teaching of history and of a continuous formation on this theme by the teachers, especially of elementary school, so that they can work and explore the iconography as a didactic tool in an effective and systematic way in the classes Of history, since the initial series. Thus, it is understood that this research can contribute positively as new ways of understanding the use of the new languages in the teaching of History
