Abstract:
This report is a survey of a group of companies in the clothing of Campina Grande providing
services to the Cooperative Textile and Allied Cotton Color of the State of Paraíba - the
Coopnatural-whose owners are members of cooperatives. The Coopnatural works exclusively
with naturally colored cotton, the raw material from the world market mainly for its social and
environmental value. The research was aimed at analyzing the benefits gained by companies
that produce clothing in a cooperative way parts marketed under the brand name Natural
Fashion, developed by the Cooperative. To facilitate this analysis, a literature review was
performed taking subjects geared to competition and cooperation in the market, but also
around the structure of the cooperative. Thus, the methodology of research indicates their
exploratory and descriptive, using a case study as a means to conduct this study. Secondary
data were used to characterize the apparel sector and primary data obtained through the
application of this instrument, that is, a semi-structured questionnaire. We surveyed nine
companies of clothing, all providing services to the cooperative. As a way of processing the
data, we used a qualitative approach Quaint given that the objective responses were combined
quantitatively to indicate their relative importance, and the open questions were treated
qualitatively, supported by the theory referenced. The results indicate that the cooperative can
obtain many of the benefits listed in the literature, like better access to raw materials.
Regarding the benefits obtained by individual companies in clothing, not always the benefits
collectively achieved by the cooperative are transferred directly to their members, such as the
use of the mark, which is only allowed for products marketed by the cooperative and can not
be placed in other lines produced by clothing companies that provide services to the
cooperative. Other benefits are directly perceived by companies, like job training and
technical support. The analysis carried out indicate that there is a high level of convergence
between the benefits offered by the cooperative and the perceived benefits of clothing
companies, confirming that in this case, the cooperative work seems advantageous for the
companies studied. Another aspect is the recognition that the form of coordination of
Coopnatural has guaranteed a good performance of the company, which is translated in its
contribution to employment generation and income in local and regional market.
