The inclusion of mental health services in the context of the Unified Health System (UHS) has contributed towards the consolidation of Brazilian Psychiatric Reform, as well as it demands the reorientation of the Family Health teams’ practice along the users with necessities in the mental health area. Considering that the Evaluation of Public Policies constitutes an extremely relevant aspect to the area of Public Management, the present research aims to analyze how the attention to mental health is set in the Family Health Strategy, in the city of Sumé-PB, based on the conceptions of their professionals. This study is classified as descriptive and exploratory, with bibliographical and documental analysis. It has been made through qualitative analysis and we used the semi-structured interview as a technique of data collection, by questionnaire application. The data interpretation was made by the content analysis. Thirty professionals working in the Family Health Strategy were interviewed, in the city of Sumé-PB, were interviewed. The results obtained show that the majority of respondents do not know the proposal of the Ministry of Health for the inclusion of mental health services in primary health care. The professionals of the studied teams evaluated the need for capacity building, backup care and technical orientations from mental health specialized teams to carry out mental health services in the territory.
