Resumo:
The present study searches to develop a historical approach about the education of deaf people
through a bibliographic research with a qualitative characteristic, verifying its acquired
evolution and gains and presenting how the comprehension process of Portuguese learning as
second language of the deaf subject happens in written form. The research proposes to explore
how the Portuguese language teaching for deaf people happens and what are the best strategies
that can be used by the teacher so that the deaf person as a bilingual subject, using the written
form of Portuguese language in full measure. The Portuguese as a second language to the deaf
students and its importance in their development in society will be discussed in this study. In
addition, the work aims to identify what are the places and professionals from inclusive school
that achieve activities of Portuguese language teaching for deaf people; to know the strategies
that promote the Portuguese language learning; and to verify if, in fact, the used strategies are
obtaining satisfactory results in the student’s learning. The interest in theme appeared upon a
short experience with an inclusive classroom that help me to reflect what would be the best
method to exercise the Portuguese language with the deaf person and it is based on Pereira,
Quadros, Salles, Silva, among others. The used methodology in teaching-learning process of
Portuguese language for deaf students needs specific knowledge and actions which require the
adoption of new techniques from the teacher to enable the use of a second language to that
student. Thus, though the presented difficulties in acquisition process of LP by the deaf people
are disconcerting in many times, to understand the possibility of success in that process is a
satisfactory and enriching experience.
