“O mistério da imagem”: sonho, fé e medo na formação de um imaginário em torno do Padre Cícero (Cachoeira do Índios - PB).

Abstract

The present work explores the construction of an imaginary of fear around the statue of Padre Cícero, located in the central square of the city of Cachoeira dos Índios, in the hinterland of Paraíba. We analysis of the facts and reports that involve the removal of the statue from the square in the years 2003 and 2004 related to the death of the vice mayor and mayor of the city. It is the reports and narratives of these events that we propose to problematize, as well as to think about this imaginary construction through its own image and the discourses that surround it. The emergence of a mystery is related to these deaths and this removal of the statue from the square, stimulated by a dream that tried to explain these facts. The dimension of faith is added to this conjuncture of facts. Methodologically, we use oral history and the news from the newspapers about the facts covered. Supported by the Cultural History, we think this concept of imaginary. As well, from this social and religious scenario that involves the image, we think of the sacredness of the public space in Cachoeira dos Índios.
