Résumé:
The tourism has been identified as one of the economic areas with the greatest potential for development, competitiveness and strategic importance today, performing in some cases as the most important source of income of a region. In this context, this research aimed to identify the level of sustainability of tourism Sand, county in the state of Paraíba, involving a range of stakeholders with diverse links with tourism. Theoretically the topics were covered: Historical background of sustainable development, sustainable development, tourism, sustainability indicators, sustainability and SISDTur indicators systems. The research was characterized as exploratory, descriptive and applied quantitative, and is oriented in the form of a case study with field research and non-participant observation. Data analysis took into account the triangulation: analysis of primary data, secondary data analysis and inferences the researcher through non-participant observation. Accordingly, we have established three stages of data analysis criteria: (1) Analysis of the indicators where the collected data were processed by means of statistical techniques: mean, standard deviation and coefficient of variation; (2) Analysis of dimension; and (3) Overview of sustainability. In this approach, the research was based on the methodology of the Sustainability Indicator System of Tourism Development (SISDTur), proposed by Hanai (2009), consisting of a system of sustainability indicators for tourism from the participation of social actors with many links with tourism. In this sense, the analysis of secondary data took into account the specific measurement parameters, way of measurement, unit types measures and analyzes criteria cited in the tables of dimensions. The results of the application of SISDTur revealed that the municipality of Sand has partly unsustainable, evidenced by the standard range of sustainability and unsustainability because of the six dimensions of sustainability, two presented in intermediate sustainability: Cultural and Institutional; two partially unsustainable: Environmental and Social; and two unsustainable: Economic and Tourism. These dimensions deserve better attention of public managers in the implementation of investment plans and projects that can facilitate their improvement and contribute to the sustainable development of tourism in the city.
