Resumo:
The family business is inserted in a different context of joint ventures, since the mixing family and business. Over generations, this type of company is among the majority of small and medium enterprises. However, research shows that 30% of businesses survive the second generation and only 5% remain on the market until the third. Hence the importance of the process of succession planning in advance and professionalize the management of the family business seeking its continuity. This study aimed to identify, describe and analyze the factors that facilitate and hinder the process of succession and the importance of professionalizing the management of this type of organization, especially when the goal is to prepare the company for a family succession.
We use the differences between generations model to understand some things, habits and attitudes that are taken in the company by its founder and his successor.
Therefore, there was a descriptive, featured as a case study, where it was used as an instrument to collect data from interviews with the company's founder and his successor. The results showed that the company is going through a process of succession in the first generation, so successful without many complications and / or adversity, showing the difficulties and the features that were to influence the choice of his successor.
