Resumen:
In the current context of global markets, companies are increasingly directing their products and services for the global market, driven by the advancement of technology and ease of access to information. Front the search for competitive advantage to stay in the market, a purchasing management properly configured as an important factor in reducing costs for businesses. In this sense, the present work aims to make a diagnosis of primary sector activities of shopping at a metallurgical company in the city of Campina Grande-PB. Regarding methodology, this study is exploratory and descriptive nature. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews with company employees and through participant observation and qualitative treated using the model of comparison shopping between reactive and proactive Baily et al (2000 apud, SANTOS et al, 2002) as well as analytical basis other important authors in the area of materials management. Thus, the analyzes made it possible to identify positive and negative points regarding the management of the purchasing company studied, as well as the tendency for the same perspective reactive or proactive. Still through analyzes could make suggestions for process and / or studies that can bring positive results for the company.
