On this research monographic entitled Continuing Teacher Education: between theory and practice, we sought to understand the importance of continuing education in the educational process in order to reflect on the conceptions of education that has been constructed by educators. Also sought to identify how the processes of continuous formation contributing to the transformation of the teaching act, in addition to investigating the factors that influence directly in the development of educational practice. Still we attempted to reflect on the importance of theory and practice in teacher performance. What motivated the choice of theme, beyond the intention to better understand the importance of teacher continuing education for the exercise of pedagogic practice was the need to reflect on the role of theory in teacher practice. Had the locus of research Schools, both located in the municipality of Vieirópolis-PB. The methodology used for this study was a bibliographic in which, allowed direct contact with works, articles or documents related to the theme. The study in reference it is about a field research with descriptive qualitative themed approach that sought to measure answer the objectives proposed on this work. As regarding to the instruments used the development of research with data collection used to one semi-structured interview for believing the goals proposed in this research are well understand when there is more social interaction between the research subjects and the researcher. This work also include the participation of four effectives teachers of Department of Education of municipality, that was proposed to cooperate with related investigations to the introduced theme. In relation results obtained it was found the teaches consider continuing formation as being of a great importance to the teaching act, since for them this formation ensures better professional qualification. Verified too the teachers see the theory as something essential to development of practice founded on the quality of teaching in the classroom. Also demonstrated that there is some concern on the part of the teaching workforce, with regard to continuing education programs offered by governments, since not everyone has access to such programs and according to them, this is because of poor distribution and little regulation around this issue. The survey also revealed that the teaching category feels dissatisfied with regard to salary issues, as they believe that the numbers don’t match the work done by them. Even with some negative factors, still showed the teachers said they were confident and realized in their chosen profession exercise
