Résumé:
This dissertation is supposed to analyze the images of the Weekly Illustrated P'ra Você magazine, from the city of Recife - PE in the year 1930. This journal emerged in the "Paris Nordestina", taking as a starting point the approach of three linked issues to the daily life in modern times: living in the city of Recife in the year already mentioned, dressing in that same city as well as the experimentation of leisure through the cinema. Written by men and published for women, P'ra You are a reference in the Recife press until today, or by its editorial body of weight, such as Sergio Buarque de Holanda, or for aesthetics, developed in the first editions by Lula Cardoso. We established as a main objective to see how the P'ra Magazine in the city of 1930 mentioned the representation of the modern individual through the multifaceted cultural aspects of the city. For its functionality and effectiveness, this objective must meet certain specific objectives, namely: a) Observe and analyze the construction of the identity of the "modern" individual through the words present in the magazine, such as fashion columns, chronicles, prose and poetry , and the images intrinsic to the texts written in it; b) To problematize the use of objects considered as "modern" in the period already mentioned; c) To evaluate and to understand how the signs of the modern modified the daily life and customs of the city already mentioned in the year of 1930. As a theoretical and methodological reference, we adopt the concept of Representation developed by Roger Chartier and the indicative paradigm of the Italian Carlo Guinzburg. We will remain, so to speak, in a constant clash between the modern and the traditional, persisting in dealing with the peculiarities in the speeches emitted in the periodical and the images linked to them. We believe that this research was of fundamental relevance to unravel the tangle of realities of the city of Recife, since we passed through the dreams, fears, hopes and
disappointments of the living Pernambucans of the beginning of this century, managing to translate all these flows into the body of this text. In this way, we conclude that P'ra Magazine You are a rich and broad object, covered by complex dualities, details and representations that are fundamental to the understanding built on this dissertation in respect of its readers.
