Resumo:
Due to the increased competitiveness of the global market, production systems are the target of a growing search for improvement in organizations today. The planning, scheduling and production control need to be made effectively to satisfy consumers in general and enable competitive advantage to the company. Based on the aspects mentioned above, this paper aims to describe the activities of production planning and control (PPC) sector the Metallurgical Paraíba (fictitious name), located in Campina Grande - PB. Regarding the methodology, the analysis can be classified as descriptive, using qualitative methods. The research subject was the sector PPC, through semi-structured interviews, recorded and transcribed for data collection, whose instrument was a script developed based on the literature on the subject and consultation files of the metallurgy. The results show that the company carries out the activities of production planning and control as described in the literature, although the planning is done by the operation director and supervisors and not by sector PPC itself. Such evidence demonstrates the need for decentralization of decision-making in metallurgy, in order to assign the official sector PPC the given activities.
