In this context the knowledge becomes the main resource of organizations, as well as a great challenge to manage it for giving guidelines for companies to achieve their goals. Therefore, this study aims to diagnose as the National Department of Mineral production-DNPM/PB creates, maintains and offers a strategic knowledge reserve able to generate value, verified from the use of the Diagnostic model of knowledge management, proposed by Bukowitz and Williams (2002).The authors of this model divided in seven sections (Get, Use, Learn, Contribute, Evaluate, Build/Prop, Deprive), of which four sections are part of the process of tacit knowledge and the last three correspond to strategic knowledge. The methodology used was based on bibliographical research and application of questionnaires to all servers and outsourced. The survey was developed in the form of descriptive case study with a quantitative approach. According to analysis of data if realizes that there is a lack of strategic knowledge, being used only the tactical, which is configured as the knowledge generated on a daily basis without a worry in the formation of such a feature. The knowledge used in the organization is an individual merit without assistance or management reasons. Then, the results show the need for a deployment of knowledge management to a strategic knowledge creation.
