Resumo:
This research aims to trace the diagnosis of solid waste in the city of Campina Grande - PB, using the indicator system Sustainability Pressure-State-Impact-Response (PSIR), to measure and assess the level of sustainability. The specific objectives were to explore the concepts and approaches related to the topic, presenting the dynamic system of sustainability indicators (PSIR), characterize the city of Campina Grande - PB emphasizing the main aspects related to solid waste by applying a set of indicators suggested by PSIR Amorim (2010). Aiming to achieve the objectives mentioned above, the preparation of this work took place from descriptive research and local visits to some public agencies in town that had a direct connection with the topics covered, as well as quantitative and qualitative analysis through semi-structured interviews and questionnaire. The results showed that: the city has some difficulties in relation to solid waste and the treatment given to them by the public and by society, especially about the lack of a unit to process the wastes, where can be made the appropriate treatments so the environment is not very harmed. Since the city is the largest technological center in Latin America, and annually receives thousands of people in their events nationally known, there’s the need to analyze the waste in spite of the development of the city, seeking to mitigate this problem.
