Abstract:
The balance sheet analysis in business management provides important information for managers to make decisions, however you can only extract reliable information from the financial statements from the analysis of economic and financial indicators compared to firms in the same industry, that’s why it is essential to study facing competitors, so that the company can get solid market. Still, the need to not only have a study concerning the company, but for each group of people and external interested people that may influence somehow the organization, this is possible characterizing a standard profile for the economy or for the sector itself compared to the company's profile and classifying it qualitatively. Through the technique of standard indexes can companies can be classified in same industry groups, serving as a base for comparing companies in the same industry. Thus, this study aims to analyze the economic and financial health of the company and in relation to its industry, placing it before their competitors getting a qualitative analysis of their results, in order to generate information that can guide them to get to strategic decisions. For this analysis Standardized Financial Statements published at advanced levels of Corporate Governance have been used, broadcasting financial information beyond their legal obligations that represent decrease in the risk of uncertainty of the outcome by improving the quality of information provided. Regarding to the methodology, we conducted a descriptive survey. The results allow us to understand the Consumer Cyclical sector and characterize the participating companies into quartiles, then, we put great effort into the study of GRENDENE, MAGAZINE LUIZA, MARISA SHOPS and their results were quite different from each other, with the aim of discovering opportunities and threats, strengths and weaknesses of the sector. The end of this study showed the improved reliability of information for decision making when outcomes are based not only on financial indicators alone, but in comparison with the sector.
