Síndrome de Burnout: um estudo de caso em policiais de Campina Grande – PB.

Abstract

The work is the human activity that form the society and organizations. In labor relations are implicit different behavior, both for workers in the organizations, which may encourage the emergence of problems that undermine mental health and welfare of workers in their workplace. Among the problems arising from work is the Burnout Syndrome. Some professionals, due to certain characteristics inherent to their profession have a higher propensity to borrow this syndrome. Among them are the police. This study is a result of research developed in the 2nd Battalion of Military Police in the city of Campina Grande - PB, held with the objective to verify if the police are affected by this syndrome. To this study we chose to use the theoretical model of Maslach, Jackson and Leiter (1996), which identifies and assesses the Burnout Syndrome from three dimensions: emotional exhaustion, depersonalization and personal involvement in work. As for the methodology chosen by a search for exploratory and descriptive nature, and as a research tool called a structured Maslach Burnout Inventory General Survey. The results revealed that the police had low level in the three dimensions that make up the Burnout. The emotional exhaustion dimension was the one with the highest average rates, suggesting the occurrence of an initial stage of the syndrome in the sample. The results point to the need to adopt preventive measures.
