Resumo:
This work investigated the performance of educational interpreters in the process of teaching deaf students, in two institutions of Higher Education in the city of Cajazeiras-PB, namely: Universidade Federal de Campina Grande - UFCG, and Instituto Federal da Paraíba - IFPB. Through a qualitative approach, we seek to understand the work developed by professional interpreters of Língua Brasileira de Sinais (Libras) (Brazilian Sign Language) and their role in the learning process of deaf students, aiming to know the barriers faced by them to develop their work in inclusive classes of Higher Education. The work was carried out by the application of a questionnaire containing open and closed questions. The data was obtained in the responses of the subjects that expressed their interpretations individually regarding the object under study. As results, we could understand that the participants need to be engaged in the planning of the didactic activities, in an active way; have prior knowledge about the contents to be worked in the classroom, so that they can overcome this difficulty still present in the school environment. From the data we also identify that Libras Educational Interpreters need to understand their role in the process of education of deaf people, they should seek continuous training constantly, as the improvement and commitment to a profession is often determined by the preparation for the exercise of this profession and, consequently, for overcoming the difficulties that arise along the way.
