Abstract:
To survive in today's business environment and management companies are seeking to develop innovative practices the opportunity to improve their operational and financial performance. In the view of Schumpeter (1985), innovation of introducing a new product; new method of production; new market; raw material, and; it is the result of a process of new combinations that may arise from other existing ones. Amid the approaches associated with the generation and diffusion processes of innovation arises Innovation Systems, which has a greater emphasis on seeking to understand the influence of external institutions in the creation and diffusion process of knowledge. In this context, according to Breschi and Malerba (1997), are coupled to Innovation Systems, Sectoral Systems of Innovation, which are determined in view of the dynamism of change and transformation of sectors, focusing on the understanding of innovation as an interactive phenomenon among various actors. Therefore, it is necessary the existence of elements able to improve ways of working within the system to respond to changes and transformations of the sectors, and contribute to the interaction between the agents involved, in other words, the existence of governance structures. From these considerations, this study aims to Analyze the existing governance structures in the production sector of cachaça in the Brejo paraibano and their contributions to the better functioning of the Sectoral System of Innovation from the perspective of the manager. This is exploratory and descriptive study in which was used the technique of content analysis to the treatment of primary data, plus analysis of secondary data and non-participant observation. The results indicate that the characteristics of the dominant technological regime in Sectoral System of Innovation have an average level of opportunity, restricted appropriability and low cumulatively; the existing structure of governance in the production sector of cachaça in the Brejo paraibano does not contribute to the better functioning of the Sectoral System Innovation, and; the form of performance of this system does not encourage the formulation and implementation of innovation for existing power asymmetries between firms that comprise the sector and lack of joint integration between them.
