Developing educational projects implemented with FPGAs has become a common
practice in courses such as Electrical Engineering, and Computer Science, besides
Technical degrees. Nonetheless, a problem still remains regarding the lack of a
methodology to address the integration of modular projects from the didactical and
pedagogical points of view. This dissertation aims to apply concepts from the area of
education to technology education. The methodology proposed here focus on the
integration of project modules based on collaborative activities such as those
proposed by social interaction teaching. The challenge is to make possible the
teamwork that allows knowledge building in a socialized environment, respecting the
time constraints imposed at the classroom. The proposed methodology addresses
four steps: (1) didactic-pedagogical preparation of the project modules, (2)
organization of the work environment, (3) project modules development and (4) the
integration of the modules in Global Project. During this work it was used the DE2
board and development software Quartus II v. 8.1, both supplied by the company
Altera. The hardware description language adopted was Verilog. The validation of the
methodology consisted in applying it in the integration process of two project
modules that had been previously built during the teaching of the discipline “digital
systems architecture” at the Electrical Engineering Department at UFCG. From this
preliminary validation exercise it was concluded that the integration methodology
was adequate to promote collaborative activities, such as the social interaction
among the participants during the experiment. This text also presents the
specification of a supporting tool to simplify the methodology application. This work
is expected to contribute to dynamic and effective teaching-learning instructional
designs with FPGA.
