Resumen:
The small growers of Natuba district have in the cultivation of vegetables, the main source of income. In a geographical space once dominated by sugarcane monoculture, polyculture arises, based mainly on the production of coriander, lettuce and chives (relatively short growing season crops thus allowing a weekly income). The choice of area was based on the importance in terms of volume sold in CEAGEPE Supply Company and General Warehouses of the State of Pernambuco, from the municipality of Vitoria de Santo Antão, where the district under study is located. The main objective that guided the present work was the analysis of the level of organization and, in particular, the identification of the commercialization structure, in order to identify the bottlenecks that prevent the improvement of the living conditions of small producers. For this purpose, the following methodological procedures were used: questionnaires application, interviews, direct observation and secondary data collection. The main conclusions of the analysis of the information and data collected point to the absence of a effective organization in production and marketing, inoperative local association, difficulties in accessing agricultural credit, lack of systematic technical assistance, individual sale of production that weakens bargaining power in price formation / negotiation and, especially, excessive intermediation thus widening the circuit of the supply chain.
