Resumen:
Irrigation has always been part of human history, from the earliest civilizations that developed riverbanks to use the waters of these springs to produce food. However, some problems, such as water scarcity, made the population build ways for water to be used for emergency occasions and in this context the irrigated perimeters appear. Mainly addressing the northeast region, especially the Irrigated Perimeter Irrigated District Várzeas de Sousa-PB, there are three public institutions focused on the development of research with lots in DPIVAS: Paraibana Company of Supply and Agricultural Services (EMPASA), State Company Agricultural Research Institute of Paraíba (EMEPA) and Federal Institute of Paraíba (IFPB). With this, the study will seek to understand the performance of Research Institutions in the Irrigation District Irrigated Perimeter Várzeas de Sousa (DPIVAS). Methodologically, we employed exploratory, descriptive and documentary procedures with a qualitative approach. Data were collected in the first half of the year 2018. According to the main results, the Paraíba State Agricultural Research Corporation is the one that most researches and is also the agency that most helps small farmers in that irrigation district. Another problem noted is the lack of a stronger charge on the part of the DPIVAS administration to present the results of production, innovation, development of new crops and the introduction of more rural research. Thus, much work remains to be done to make the areas for these research institutions fully productive. Therefore, it is recommended that those farmers or research institutions that are not using the lots correctly are legally dismissed and that the lots are delivered to people who are really willing to invest in the area bringing positive results and investment. in the area of DPIVAS.
