Résumé:
The Brazilian Language of Signals (LIBRAS) is the main means of communication of
the deaf person, their knowledge by the teacher and student is indispensable for
communication, teaching and learning. The purpose of this study is to investigate the
conceptions and methodologies of science teachers, their difficulties and their
relevance of this language in municipal and state schools of Cuité-PB, since the lack
of study and knowledge about Brazilian language of signals can affect in the
development of classes. The present research is characterized as an exploratory,
mixed approach study. From the obtained data, the analyzes of the answers were
made inspired by the strategies of content analysis of Bardin (1997). For data
collection, a semi-structured questionnaire was used with Elementary School teachers
from the municipal and states schools of the city of the Cuité-PB. The target audience
for the survery were ten sciences teachers discipline. The results show the lack of
knowledge of LIBRAS by the teachers interviewed, it was possible to verify that this
language is not approached by the teachers, and that the knowledge mediated to the
deaf students is done is a shallow way, evidencing the need for the teachers to have
a continuous education for the best professional improvement, thus promoting the
inclusion of the deaf student in a positive way during the classes.
