Resumen:
The use of medicinal plants in Brazil is extensive, and studies in this area have been growing due to the vast cultural miscegenation and biodiversity of the country, in addition, in recent years the implementation of public policies, such as the National Policy of Medicinal Plants and Phytotherapeutics, encouraging the valorization and the increase of the researches with plants with biological potential, for the treatment of several diseases. Musa spp., Popularly known as banana, whose fruit is used in traditional ways both as a food supplement due to its nutritional properties and to aid in the treatment of various diseases due to its phytochemicals. Due to the worldwide recognition of its fruit in relation to production and consumption, as well as the benefits generated both in food and the benefits due to its popular utility, this work aimed to carry out a survey of the scientific literature on Musa spp. analyzing them critically, in order to show their chemical characterization, as well as their pharmacological activities through the comparison of these studies. The research was carried out in the databases, Capes Periodicals, Scientific Electronic Libary Online (SciELO), Science Direct, PubMed, Flora of Brazil digital archive produced by the National Library of Medicine in the area of Biosciences and the collection of the Library of the Federal University of Campina Grande (UFCG), Cuité-PB campus, 257 articles were found in total regarding Musa spp., But only 62 had data contributing to the formation of the work. In the articles we have reported some pharmacological activities of Musa spp. as antitumor, healing, anti-ulcerative, hypoglycemic, antiviral, antibiotic, among others. Some of these activities were tested along with specific drugs for a particular disease in which the species stood out for demonstrating a similar or even higher activity, the potentiality of the plant was observed regarding its activities.
