Letras do sertão: representações do feminino na imprensa sertaneja (Sousa, 1951-1969).

Abstract

The present work has as objective discuss the woman's behavior in the mid twentieth century, in parallel to the technological, political and social innovations that were occurring in the society of the time. More specifically, we search discuss the feminism representations in the backlands press during this modernization period and behavioral changes. For the realization of this proposal, an analysis of the magazine Letters of Hinterland was performed in order to understand the developments of such changes in a conservative society. We propose discussions about the importance of the press as a space of fights and women's empowerment in an attempt to equal rights in relation to men. The magazine Letters of Hinterland had a circulation period of eighteen years between 1951 and 1969 in the city of Sousa, Paraiba. We used as theoretical support the considerations of Joan Scott and Judith Butler to understand the relationships and the concept of genre. Methodologically we worked with periodic sources, ie, with the articles published regularly by the mentioned magazine.
