Os Congos de Pombal: nas raízes das tradições e da fé em Nossa Senhora do Rosário.

Abstract

The objective of this research is to analyze the traditional meanings by which the congos of the city of Pombal in the high hinterland, in the festivities of the Feast of Our Lady of the Rosary, with their dances and chants - remembering the past, in the organization of the party, with the main focus. in authors who approach African culture as a survival strategy from an African root through black relations with the Catholic church, constructing a meaning of a cultural identity and tradition of the Congo. The work discussed the relations of the congos, with the pombalense society, the social strategies that the congos find to perpetuate their culture in the social environment of the community. Thus the study made possible to make an analysis of the group congos with representatives of the church, in the present day, to problematize this as a dispute regarding the uses of space in the representations in the period of the celebration.
