The consequences of MD complications compromise the physical, social and emotional state of the individual and their caregivers, and may cause specific manifestations that characterize Common Mental Disorders (CMDs), such as insomnia,h eadache, fatigue, irritability, forgetfulness, difficulty concentrating, sadness, somatic concern. Objective: To identify the occurrence of Common Mental Disorders (CMD) in people undergoing non-traumatic amputations. Method: The study was developed in the Diabetic Foot Unit of a school hospital, a reference in the teaching and care of patients with foot ulcers and amputation of lower extremities. The Self-Reporting Questionnaire (SRQ-20) was used. Results and discussion: Of the 30 participants, 76.6% (23) presented a predisposition to the risk of mental illness, the most common age group being between 51 and 70 years. According to the srq-20 items, the participants revealed that they sleep poorly, get tired easily, have felt sad, have difficulty in the service, are unable to play a useful role in their life, and have lost their interest in things. Conclusion: It is essential to implement education and awareness actions aimed at health promotion and integral care involving all the existing lines of care in the Family Health Strategy, so that these individuals and their families are accompanied globally.
